KEMSA Unveils Strategic Plan to Enhance Efficiency and Accountability

The Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) has outlined a three-pronged strategy to improve its efficiency, financial stability, and governance.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum, KEMSA Chairperson Samuel Tunai emphasized the agency’s commitment to restoring public trust and operational excellence.

“KEMSA is under immense scrutiny, and we must enhance governance, liquidity, and financial stability to fulfill our mandate effectively,” Tunai stated.

To boost financial stability, KEMSA will digitize its supply chain for real-time tracking of medical supplies, optimize inventory management, and improve debt recovery from hospitals and county governments.

In governance, the agency plans to strengthen oversight mechanisms to curb corruption and mismanagement while fostering transparency through digital innovations.

KEMSA also aims to diversify revenue streams by partnering with private health facilities and reforming procurement processes to ensure timely supplier payments.

Tunai urged employees to embrace professionalism, integrity, and accountability, stressing the importance of talent development, diversity, and change management training.

He noted that the latest Auditor General’s report gave KEMSA an unqualified opinion, indicating progress in governance and financial management.

“This workshop is a chance to evaluate our past strategies, learn from our shortcomings, and ensure KEMSA delivers efficient, transparent, and high-quality healthcare services to Kenyans,” Tunai said.
